Portland Housing Bureau recently extended and expanded funding for the Minority Homeowners Assistance Collaborative (MHAC) to continue to assist senior homeowners through their Free Homeownership Retention Program.  MHAC is a partnership formed by Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc. (PCRI), the African America Alliance for Homeownership (AAAH), Hacienda CDC and NAYA Youth and Family Center.  Due to the success of last year’s program serving seniors in North and Northeast Portland, the program has been expanded to provide services to seniors living throughout the City of Portland.

Last year, the MHAC Homeownership Retention Program served over 100 residents of North and Northeast Portland, providing resources and referrals that connected seniors to organizations offering free services to help seniors maintain homeownership. The types of resources and referrals included assistance with:  free home repair, utility assistance, tax deferments, free legal assistance and free foreclosure prevention service.

The Free Homeownership Retention Program is for seniors ages 55 or older who live in the City of Portland, own their own home and need supportive services or referrals to prevent foreclosure.

If you are a senior homeowner over the age of 55 years of age or know senior homeowners that need support and resources to maintain homeownership, please visit or contact Shalonda Menefee.  Shalonda can be reached by phone at (503) 288-2923 extension 123 or by email.
