The first ever PCRI Lounge on Saturday, May 5, was an amazing success! With your help, we celebrated in spectacular style with Zoulful Muzic featuring Saeeda Wright and friends (pictured at right). Most importantly, we raised over $116,000. These funds help PCRI support more families like those of our honored guest Natalie, ensuring their stability in rental housing and providing a helping hand to homeownership. On behalf of PCRI’s staff, Board of Directors, and most importantly, residents and clients, we offer our most sincere thanks.

We also wanted to share a personal message from Executive Director Maxine Fitzpatrick.

PCRI Lounge Attendees and Others,

I am grateful and hereby thank each Attendee, Supporter and Volunteer at PCRI’s revised annual event – the PCRI Lounge. Your acceptance of PCRI Lounge and our new format was remarkable. Although I anticipated the music would result in some added enjoyment, your acceptance and satisfaction of it surpassed my expectations.

Thank you for your participation and next year will be even better.

In the midst of the exciting evening and all its glory – I forgot something no leader should: I neglected  to recognize and pay homage to PCRI’s hardworking staff – Travis who has assumed the role of producer of the event and each and every PCRI staff person, in some way, contributed mightily to making this event a success.

PCRI has employed some of the most talented people around; they work every day to better PCRI, enabling it to be capable and effective at delivering on its community oriented mission, goals and strategies. PCRI staff are passionate about their work and know that every day – their efforts makes a difference in someone’s life.

And for the gentlemen that gave me that bit of good advice at the end of the event – thank you.

Be sure to check PCRI’s Facebook page and Instagram feed!. We’ll be adding gala photos from the red carpet and the event as soon as we get them!

And save the date for next year’s PCRI Lounge event: Saturday, May 4, 2019!

The headlining entertainment of the evening, the Dancing with the Stars-style competition, was every bit as exciting as its television namesake. Trained by and paired with professional dancers from Portland’s Fred Astaire Dance Studio, each dancing couple put on a spectacular show.

In the end, only one dance couple could be named champion and while judges Cupid Alexander, Serilda Summers-McGee, Andrew Tweedie and auction winner Robert Hoffman had a tough decision, they named Kali Thorne Ladd and Alex Aillon this year’s winners.

But the evening isn’t just about a dance competition. Sasha Spencer Atwood and PCRI Executive Director Maxine Fitzpatrick celebrated the successes achieved by PCRI residents while underscoring the work that is still needed: to ensure all families have access to the benefits of stable, affordable housing in Portland’s opportunity-rich close-in neighborhoods. Led by auctioneer Kelly Russell, the gala’s live auction and special appeal had guests bid cards high in the air.

Most notably, Northeast Portland homeowner Jenean Dunn shared her emotional story of how she was introduced to PCRI at a critical time. Fighting back tears on stage, she shared how PCRI’s homeownership retention program helped her keep her home and ensure she got the heat back on so she could stay in the house and neighborhood she’s called home since she was a child (click HERE to watch the video).

Most notably, former resident and first-time homeowner Altia Wilkins described how the stability of PCRI’s affordable rental housing, support of PCRI’s resident services and her strong dedication enabled her to purchase the home where her grandkids have room to play. In addition, the equity she builds in her home will provide stability for her grandkids and future generations.

PCRI’s Fourth Annual Dancing with the Stars Portland Gala was the most successful gala yet! Not only did the dancers deliver an amazing show, the event’s sponsors, volunteers and guests raised over $85,000 to support the affordable housing and services PCRI residents depend on to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Click on any of the photos to view Cameron Browne’s gala photos, or find additional links at the bottom of the page.

Following a packed reception, Judge Adrienne Nelson and her husband Ted Poole were guilty of a stunning performance as they opened the event with their crowd-pleasing dance. And Mistress of Ceremonies Margaret Carter delivered a seamless program for the evening with even more energy and glamour than she brought as MC for PCRI’s premiere gala.

The headlining entertainment of the evening, the Dancing with the Stars-style competition, also had more energy—especially judging by the volume of cheering from the audience! Trained by and paired with professional dancers from Portland’s Fred Astaire Dance Studio, each dancing couple put on a spectacular show.

In the end, only one dance couple could be named champion and while Judges Jesse Beason, Karin Edwards and Nancy Hales had a tough decision, they unanimously named Pamela Weatherspoon this year’s winner.

But the evening wasn’t just about a dance competition. Margaret Carter and PCRI Executive Director Maxine Fitzpatrick celebrated the successes achieved by PCRI residents while underscoring the work that is still needed to ensure all families have access to the benefits of stable, affordable housing in Portland’s opportunity-rich close-in neighborhoods. Led by auctioneer Kelly Russell, the gala’s live auction and special appeal were the most successful yet.

And, most notably, resident Jean Paul and his family described how, with the benefit of affordable housing and their own dedication, families can grow roots, dream big, and achieve amazing goals.

We extend a giant thank you to all our sponsors, contributors and guests as well as the fantastic volunteers who made the evening such an amazing success.  Be sure to look through all the pictures from photographers Antonio Harris and Cameron Browne, as well as those on the Gala Website and PCRI’s Facebook page!  If you’re not already signed up, be sure to join our mailing list to get news and invitations for next year’s gala.

PCRI’s Third Annual Dancing with the Stars Portland Gala was successful and glamorous, raising over $70,000 to support the affordable housing and services PCRI residents depend on to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Starting off the evening’s program, Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith and Metro Councilor Sam Chase captivated the audience with a graceful foxtrot and playful humor.

Following the Commissioner Smith and Councilor Chase’s dance performance (and a packed reception before that), last year’s champion dancer, Katherine Cook hosted the evening as Mistress of Ceremonies, introducing guests to Executive Director Maxine Fitzpatrick and Board of Directors President Preston Greene.  Kelly Russell of Kelly Russell Auctions motivated guests to get their bid numbers in the air for an exciting auction and successful special appeal, featuring the success story of the Orr family (pictured below).

Former PCRI Board Member Barbara B. Smith, presented her namesake Community Support Award to Gary Cunningham, whose efforts at the Northwest Area Foundation have been instrumental in enabling significant pre-development activity at PCRI.  Mr. Cunningham was not available to receive the award in person, but expressed his gratitude via video.  Maxine Fitzpatrick accepted the award in his honor at the gala.

IMG_0188The headlining entertainment of the evening, the Dancing with the Stars-style competition, was also a runaway success.  Five prominent local celebrities were each trained by and paired with professional dancers from Portland’s Fred Astaire Dance Studio.  Each dancing couple put on a spectacular show in the individual performance as well as the group waltz competition.  In between dances, the competition’s star judges (pictured below) kept the audience entertained with commentary about the dancers’ performances.

Pressed to crown a champion, the judges had their work cut out for them:  KGW NewsChannel 8 reporter Ashley Korslien, started the competition with a fast-paced Latin club mix.  She and dance partner Uriah Stockdale (pictured below) of Fred Astaire Dance Studio had guests cheering for more.

IMG_0223Oregon State Representative Jennifer Williamson danced an especially graceful Viennese Waltz with Fred Astaire Studio’s Alex Aillon(pictured below) and kept the crowd at the edge of their seats.

IMG_0259Charles McGee, CEO of The Black Parent Initiative took to the floor next, getting down to “Superstition” with a showdance.  McGee and his professional partner Sydney Weir from Fred Astaire Dance Studio (pictured below) had gala guests clapping and cheering for more.

IMG_0294Up next, benefit auctioneer Kelly Russell danced into her second role of the night, trading her auctioneer’s microphone for a pair of dance shoes and performing the rumba with Fred Astaire Studio partner Kacey Bicking (pictured below) to the song “Fly Love.”

IMG_0322Rounding out the first portion of the competition, Ifanyi Bell, digital producer for OPB, jumped, slid and danced around the floor for a crowd-pleasing showdance with Fred Astaire’s Jessi Aillon (pictured below).

IMG_0343The second portion of the competition featured all five dance couples performing the waltz, after which, the judges faced a difficult decision trying to choose a champion.

In the end, Ifanyi and Jessi’s graceful waltz and crowd-pleasing showdance trumped their competitors, capturing the evening’s championship trophy.
